The Reader's Emporium

This page is about the novel I'm working on. It's the story of a college-age boy in Portland who inherits a bookstore in Oklahoma City from a complete stranger and his adventures.

If you're curious about the story, you can just download the synopsis, which tells the whole story in a little over 4,000 words. It gives the plot and tells you what happens, but doesn't have any dialogue or anything. You can download it here, or read it off the screen. (It's about eight pages, single-spaced)

You may also download the novel, in its entirety. I have this version single-spaced, and if you print it out at two pages per sheet (like some printers let you do) it will reduce down to look like a Xeroxed paperback and only take about 55 sheets of paper.

The first three chapters, I hope, are in much better shape than the rest of the work, which is a lot less polished. If you choose to read it, please be aware that there will be ideas that go nowhere, strange ramblings that relate to nothing, and lots of things that should be edited out or added in.

To download the first two chaptes, please right click here and save it to your computer.

For those of you who've seen up to chapter 3, and don't really want to read the whole thing or the synopsis, here are some spoilers. They will answer the questions you brought up without forcing you to read the damn thing. But, they will spoil some of the surprises if you plan on reading the novel. Let me know if I forgot anything!

The other novel I wrote, The Single Spire, is only in first draft. It's not much like this one (it isn't funny) and deals with with a speed freak who gets in a bum fight on his way to moving into the only second story apartment in his cheap weekly hotel. You can visit its page here.
