Wave Theory

About three months after the devastation, there was another earthquake near Indonesia. This time, according to some report I read (not this one), people jumped all over it, and broadcast tsunami warnings even tho there were, in fact, no actual tsunamis.

See, the thing is, we got all concerned last year that these people had no warning system. So, when something happened that could have (but didn't) create a tsunami, well, we freaked.

I don't know. I'm no scientist, I know very little about geology or earthquakes or anything, but it seems to me that the Indian and Sri Lankan scientists probably know (and *knew*) more about local seismic activity than those of us who insisted they spend millions on a tsunami warning system. I have little doubt they saw it as quickly as we did, but had no way of alerting the villagers, who don't even own TVs.

Anyway, this one is still a tragedy. I still lean more toward it being a result of plate techtonics than Allah's wrath or disapproval, though.

Still a Long Way to Go

Discrimination is everywhere, but progress is being made. Not as quickly as some would like, but every little battle is important.

ET Phoning Home?

I ran SETI for years and never discovered anything as neat as this.

Seems there's some radio wave thingys (technical term) coming from the center of the Milky Way and that will be investigated further. So far they've given it a name (GCRTJ1745-3009), but I expect a better name to come soon. Probably natural, probably just a pulsar sputtering out, the very best news is that they're going to be using one of my all time favorite places.

Me There!

In more earthbound news, progress is being made! No, I'm not poking fun, just reminding myself that I have it better off than a large percentage of the planet. That, too, is something to "never forget."
