Life at the Top of Maslow's Pyramid

This, if true, really sucks.

I realize more highly evolved people get benefits such as people to clean up after them, and (just like legal expertise) in America you can get better health care the more you pay, but I hope Michael's not responsible for a death.

The Bad, The Ugly, and The Worse (But a Ray of Hope, Too!)

The pnuemonic plague may be extending in Africa, and scientists who know things are undecided about avian flu spreading to humans in Vietnam, but the biggest threat may be plastic bags in Kenya.

On the brighter side, Chiquita has bought Fresh Express! Does this mean the next time I buy a bag of salad instead of "more carrots" I'll get more bananas?

Finally! A Computer I Could Live With

What would be really cool would be to win a contest or find some money or have a birthday and a rich relative and get one of these!

I've been waiting for one of these new mini-boxes with and AMD chip innit, and today it was announced!

Oh, man. I'm drooling. I want it. I need it. I may have room for more than one!

Oh, man

He's dead. Shot himself.

Before I knew what he was about I read Hell's Angels. I had a lot more experience when I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Man.

Bummer.

Stupid Capitalist Information

I'm starting to think everything abhors vaccuums.

There may be reason for this, and I'm not convinced it isn't human desire to justify one's own existence. What we're involved with we consider important. Over the past week the financial analysts have all had their panties in bunches watching ExxonMobil.

Turns out, if you take the total number of outstanding shares and multiply that by the price for each share you can determine the "biggest company." Oboy! Exercises in arithmetic!

This last week ExxonMobil's price has occasionally risen to the point where it made that company the largest in the world, but never ended the day at that level. It finally did! Congrats on amassing an obscene $381 billion!

I'm sure there were bets and pools going on, so congrats to the winners of those. General Electric is now number two, with Microsoft is a distant third but leading Citigroup and WalMart.

It's About Time (V2)

He's hitting the ground running!

He's been in office less than two weeks, and comes out with guns blazing. Nothing is more important right now in this country than going after pornographers. Maybe it's just a concerned effort to clean up this place.

I guess chances are, that statue of justice won't be showing her boobies any time soon.

Don't Know Art, Know What I Like

The real news is this. I know many people have looked down their noses in the past, but it seems as if things are looking up. Next step...black velvet Elvis?

Not sure if it was bought as kitsch, or what.

I've Seen the Future...

Uh oh. I've been kinda okay about planning for retirement and have had passing interest in the recent talks about Social Security, but this guy scares me.

Immortality? In twenty year's time? That's close to when I figured I'd be shuffling off this mortal coil, and I've no plans for anything past then!

Liquid Gold

From the trial of former WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers comes this gem from Yahoo! news:

"Ebbers claimed he was having a security guard at a WorldCom office near Washington, D.C., 'mainly fill up the bottled-water machines with tap water, and the employees didn't know the difference.'"

Okay, most blind tests I've heard of would agree with that, but it's still a pretty damn sneaky thing to do, especially for the CEO of a huge company. WorldCom may have been the world's worst place to work as the house of cards collapsed, nicht wahr?

Red L:etter Day!

Today I'm pleased to announce that I learned something.

Something valuable. Something I never knew. It never occurred to me there was a name for it, but it makes sense that there would be. I mean, everything has a name.

I present....The Brannock Device

Corporate Wars

Microsoft has launched its new search engine today, and it works!

Also, Toyota unveiled its new hybrid SUV, the Highlander for some people to test. I know, I was talking about Esuvee yesterday, but that just shows I'm as psychic as humanly possible. It's interesting to note that this machine has three motors and one engine, Toyota having decided that the holy grail of market share was to emphasize power over environmental concerns. So, all those SUV owners who've been wrestling with guilt can now enjoy a vehicle that acheives about the same mileage my car got.

Now, of course, my car will last the rest of its life on the gas in the tank.

Too bad about these guys. They claim its fuel prices that cost them the thirty-four billion they've lost today (ouch!), but I blame it all on their UGLY FUCKING SHIPS. My god, they look like boxy floating hotels and have none of the beauty I expect from a luxurious cruise liner and must have taken the designers minutes. What happened to the beautiful lines ship used to have? Oh, yeah, that's right: economic greed.
